Invented in 1974 by Italian gynecologists, Dr. Giorgio Fischer and his son by the same name, liposuction was not originally for cosmetic purposes. It was only a few years later that it was presented as a highly effective method of body sculpting for the purposes of cosmetic enhancement by Dr. Ives Gerard Illouz and Dr. Pierre Fournier. Today, it is performed by plastic surgeons and physicians around the world.
